The trend is over with but I couldn’t help to submit this picture this morning when I stumbled across it in iPhoto.

I like when people try to trick me online. I like seeing what methods they employ and what they try to get me to do. Tonight I got a Facebook Marketplace inquiry from Jared Lerum. He was inquiring about a leather chair I posted on FB Marketplace a while ago.

It’s a good chair but it has damage, I don’t use it, and it takes up too much space in my apt so I tossed it up there fully expecting nothing to come of it. Well at least it was worth a laugh. “Jared Lerum” wanted to pay me with a Cashiers Check for a $55 used chair with fire damage. Pretty pathetic. So I took 5 min to humor myself at Jared’s expense and figured I’d share with my homies.

I always knew the power of Facebook’s Social Graph. Mapping the relationship of all of your users gives these types of spammers no where to hide. Your connections become your reputability. It’s cool to see it in action.

Today is a great day, I got to wake up to a game of the Sox vs the A’s in extra innings in Japan. I tuned in just in time to watch Manny break the stalemate with a 2 RBI hit in the top of the 10th to put the Sox ahead enough to grab the win.

I have a MySpace and Facebook profile but I never go on MySpace anymore since FB opened up their network to 3rd party applications. Plus being a web developer I can just tell that FB was built right – as opposed to Myspace which is a giant CF.

So I looked down the list:

1. Myspace – check, I have a profile
2. Facebook – check check, I go there constantly
3. Bebo – Popular in Britain, ok I’m familiar with it
4. BlackPlanet – ???

So I figured I’d check it out. Then I was greeted with THIS Bitch Slapped!!!

Como? Huh? They don’t support the latest version of Camino?

It’s pretty funny that they want you to upgrade to Firefox 2 when Firefox and Camino are both open source projects of the Mozilla Foundation and share exactly the same Gecko rendering engine.

These days with standards based development processes we don’t have to “browser sniff” any longer. If BlackPlanet didn’t get the memo,the right way to go about it is “feature sniffing” with locked down degradation. You should really look into Jeremy Keith’s DOM Scripting and perhaps read A List Apart from time to time. It really pisses me off when I run across this type of neglect on the Internet…

It took me a year to get over this betrayal. AntWorks was gathering dust on my shelf and I never really gave it a shot, so shortly before New Years I search for and found the best site online to buy ANTS – AntsAlive.com. I was kind of worried if they’d actually show up alive but they came today in a vial, 25 in total. Awesome! ANTS!

I got them into AntWorks as soon as possible because they were probably starving, but they all made it through alive which was good news.

I’m planning on cataloging my ant farm as time goes on. They’re supposed to tunnel through the gel in the AntWorks enclosure – it actually doubles as their food, so it should end up looking pretty cool when it’s illuminated.

I’ll see how this first one goes. Down the line I’d like to wrig up a time-lapsed movie of the ants tunneling. There’s definitely some cool AntWorks videos on YouTube already.

I spent this Saturday morning for 2 hours in virtual waiting rooms, trying to get tickets. Every 30 seconds you “might” get a chance to tickets – if there are even any left.

I have some advantages in the whole process because I’m a geek.

4 computers, 4 different IP addresses, 9 browsers under my control.<br/>

That makes 9 browsers X 2 requests/min X 120 minutes = 2160 opportunities to get tickets.

I’m a shoe-in right? Wrong. I got in once. I was excited for my Opening Day chances. 4 tickets, best available (and all section iterations) – NOPE, 3 tickets, best available – NOPE, 2 – NOPE, 1 – YAY! Wait a minute, how useful is 1 ticket? I bought it on principle. I’ll be at a Red Sox game in ’08. By myself. Go Sox.
